You do not need to know how tarot works before a reading. You do not need a dramatic question, a perfect spread or a special ritual. The best preparation is often simply creating enough quiet to hear your own question clearly.
Bring the situation, not a performance
If you are thinking about a relationship, career decision, move, creative project or period of uncertainty, say so in ordinary language. A reader can work with “I feel stuck and I do not know what to prioritise” just as easily as a formal question.
Ask open questions when you can
Questions such as “What should I know about this situation?” or “What am I not seeing clearly?” can leave more room for reflection than a strict yes-or-no question. If a yes-or-no answer is what you genuinely need, you can still ask it—but remember that the cards do not make the decision for you.
Keep your agency in the room
A reading is a conversation, not a command. If something does not resonate, you do not have to force it. If a card brings up a useful idea, take the idea and think about it. The most valuable part may happen after the session when you decide what you want to do with what you heard.
After the reading
Write down one or two phrases that stayed with you. Give yourself a little time before immediately booking another reading about the same question. Reflection is part of the process.
May the cards give you a mirror, not a cage; a question, not a command; and enough quiet to hear your own answer.
